WW2 - High Seas Fleet Badge
Original Flottenkriegsabzeichen der Kriegsmarine - High Seas Fleet Badge by Richard Simm & Söhne of Gablonz. The Navy High Seas Fleet War Badge was awarded for service to the crews of battleships, cruisers and other supporting naval ships who met the specific award criteria (along with those who were killed in action). It is constructed out of a die-struck zinc base that has been gold gilded and blackened.
The obverse depicts a frontal view of a battle ship, cutting through waves, which is below a Kriegsmarine eagle (with out-stretched wings clutching a mobile swastika within its talons) and is surrounded by an oak leaf and acorn wreath that is tied together at the bottom.
The full-back concave reverse is correctly marked: “R.S.&S.”. It also displays the correct; crimped steel flat wire catch, crimped steel ball hinge and tombak coke bottle pin. The gilding is still good overall, blackening and details all look excellent!
