USAAF M-5 Flak Helmet

A totally stunning, seemingly unissued Bomber Waist Gunner's M-5 Flak Helmet. Worn by waist gunners exposed in the open cockpits of gun positions on bombers, these gave the wearer at least some thought of protection, along with a plate 'chicken vest', against flak burst shrapnel entering the fusilage of the aircraft. To find one is totally unused or unissued condition is extremely rare since they rarely to come to market in any condition.
