WW2 Compton Sons & Webb Racing Helmet

£295.00Price

WW2 leather & cork racing helmet.  "The Corker", by J Compton Sons & Webb Ltd. Quality helmet, VG vintage condn, British. An opportunity to purchase a wonderful vintage motorcycle helmet of quality dating back to the 1940s. Just one careful owner who used the helmet long ago! This is a large size which is harder to find. This helmet is known as "The Corker" and was made by the renowned maker's J Compton Sons & Webb Ltd. It is a beautiful example of open-face helmets worn during the WW2 and beyond. Certainly an iconic helmet for a collector or motorcycle enthusiast. The exterior of the helmet is covered in black leather and that wonderful smell of leather is still strong. The ear guards still have the additional flaps in situ. Flaps and strap are also leather. The inside of the peak is covered in dark green leather which really sets off dark leather. The information normally printed on the interior, but is absent in this case with age,  would confirm that Compton Sons & Webb made these helmets were By Appointment to Her Majesty (a sign of quality). Despite this it is in beautiful condition and clearly not 'been down the road' with its user - car racing enthusiasts and motor sport afficionados will ideally be drawn to. Testomony to the craftsmen of the time the leather is in fantastic condition and has been recently fed to bring back its leather flexibility. Paired with flying goggles that would have been easily sourced post WW2 in Europe or the UK.
