L.C.C First Aid Medal

An increasing uncommon find these days, with its issue ribbon, is this excellent condition London County Council (abolished in 1937) First Aid Medal awarded to Ms Grace Overall in 1924. First given in 1914 it was generated to recognise primarily women in voluntary positions tending to injured soldiers returning from the Western Front in France, and from the Middle Eastern campaigns in Gallipoli. After WW1 it continued to be awarded for similar activity in aiding the rehabilitation of those same servicemen suffering from physical and mental wounds. An important item one is exhibited in the British Red Cross Museum.
