British Merchant Captain - Peaked Cap (BP)

British Merchant Captain - Peaked Cap (BP)

£450.00Price

During WW2 the convoys that journeyed across the Atlantic brought, from the US, an array of raw materials to assist the UK's war effort. Many of the merchant vessels, escorted by the RN or latterly the USN, were privately owned by the corporations supplying the materials. Each ship's captain wore a cap emblem that denoted the company they were carrying for, or employed by. This one, rare amongst the collectors of merchant maritime memorabilia denoted "British Petroleum". The hat band is an additional offering, but to replace the BP band, when the skipper was sailing for anyone else or under a non-corporate designated vessel - its a truly rare combination of items.
